Documentary filmmaker Jay Heyman Documentary filmmaker Jay Heyman has over eleven years of experience in the film and television industry. A native of northern New Jersey, Jay attended Boston University, where he received a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism. After graduating, he spent time backpacking around various parts of the world and then began working in film production.

For seven years, he worked on commercials and feature films as a member of the art department while living in Boston, MA. During this time, Jay began to produce and direct his first feature documentary about his grandfather, who grew up in an orphanage in New York City. The film, "Bernie", screened at numerous festivals and took home the Audience Award for Best Feature Documentary at the 2005 Woods Hole Film Festival. It also screened at the New Filmmakers New York Summer Series held at Anthology Film Archives, as well as the opening night of an exhibit at the American Jewish Historical Society, "Cradled in Judea: Jewish Orphanages in New York, 1860-1960".

In the summer of 2004, Jay moved to Brooklyn, NY where he now works as a freelance producer/director of film, television, and web content. In 2006, he completed two short films for non-governmental organizations in Uganda that are being used for fundraising efforts.

Jay has also produced and directed content for, 'D-Life', a news magazine program about diabetes on CNBC that is dedicated to empowering and educating the millions of people living with diabetes. He recently produced and co-directed a documentary for Sony Pictures about the closing of the hit Broadway show 'RENT' that is part of the 'RENT: Filmed Live on Broadway' DVD. Other clients include: TLC, BRAVO, SPEEDtv, Ford Motor Company, Men's Vogue, and GUCCI.
